The Best Wedding Website Builders, Compared

What is free, what costs extra, and which builder handles a whole wedding weekend.

Updated October 2026 · By the WedStay team

The short answer

Zola is the best free wedding website for most couples: the site, per-event RSVPs and a registry with 0% cash fund fees cost nothing, with a seating chart tool in the same account. Joy is best for guest features, with per-event RSVPs and a live photo slideshow from its app. Minted suits couples buying Minted stationery, and Squarespace a fully custom design on a subscription. WedStay One is built for a wedding weekend: a free page, then a one-time $199 or $599 with no subscription for seating, a guest photo wall and, on Premium, room assignments.

How do the wedding website builders compare?

Six builders, side by side, on what couples ask about most: what it costs, whether you get your own domain, whether guests can RSVP to each event, and what happens on the day.

Which wedding website builder is best for you?

Each builder is the right pick for a particular wedding. Here is what each one is best for, its main limitation, and the pages we checked.

Zola

Visit

Best for: An all-in-one account: a free website with per-event RSVPs, a registry with 0% cash fund fees and a seating chart tool.

Main limitation: The seating chart is free only up to 15 guests, guest photo sharing past 5 guests and texting the whole guest list are paid upgrades, and a custom domain starts at $17.99.

Sources checked (11)

Best for: Per-event RSVPs with invite-only events, personalized guest schedules, and guest photos shown as a live slideshow at the reception.

Main limitation: The seating chart is a paid unlock per event, guests need the Joy app to upload photos, and a custom domain only forwards to the withjoy.com address.

The Knot

Visit

Best for: A free website in the same account you use to message vendors on The Knot, with a guest list that tracks every event.

Main limitation: We found no seating chart tool and no guest photo sharing on The Knot’s own product pages.

WedStay One

See it

Best for: A wedding weekend where guests stay over: a schedule grouped by day on one link, with a guest photo wall and room assignments on the paid tiers, for a one-time price.

Main limitation: One RSVP covers the whole wedding rather than each event, there is no built-in registry (it links to yours), seating and guest photos start at Pro, and your own .com domain is not offered yet.

What to check before you choose a wedding website

The free tiers look alike. These five details are where the builders actually differ.

  1. 1

A custom domain, and what it really does

Zola, Joy, The Knot and Minted give you a free address on their own domain (a zola.com/weddings link, withjoy.com, a theknot.com link and a minted.us link). A custom domain costs extra: Zola from $17.99, The Knot $19.99 for one year, Minted $15 a year for a fully custom URL. Joy says a domain typically costs about $19.99 a year, and it only forwards, so the withjoy.com address still shows in the bar. Squarespace includes a domain free for the first year on annual plans. WedStay One Premium includes a custom page address on thewedstay.com; your own .com domain is not offered yet.

  2. 2

Whether you can export the RSVPs

Your caterer and planner will want the list in a spreadsheet. Zola exports RSVPs from the Track RSVPs page on desktop (not from the app). Joy and The Knot export the guest list to share with vendors, and Minted says the guest list, RSVP statuses and meal choices are completely exportable. Squarespace sends form replies to email, Google Drive or Mailchimp. WedStay One downloads the RSVP list as a CSV file.

  3. 3

    Guest privacy

A wedding page carries a date, names and often an address. Zola, Joy, The Knot, Minted and Squarespace all offer a password, and Minted also lets you choose whether the site appears in search results. WedStay One hides the venue address until a guest enters the email their invitation went to, so a forwarded link does not show where the wedding is.

  4. 4

Whether guests need an app or an account

Joy guests do not need an account to RSVP, but they upload photos through the Joy app. Zola guests open its Disposable Camera from a QR code with no app. On WedStay One the schedule and the RSVP open from one link in a phone browser, with no app to install and no account to create. On Pro and Premium, the photo wall and finding a seat open the same way.

  5. 5

Whether the design survives a schedule change

Plans move. Before you commit, add a fourth event, move a time and switch a day, then look at the page on your phone. On WedStay One the schedule regroups by day on its own once events span more than one day, and Day-of Timeline items you choose to show guests (on Pro and Premium) slot into it in time order.

The multi-day test: a welcome dinner, the ceremony and a farewell brunch, with separate RSVPs

A wedding weekend needs each guest to answer for each event, because not everyone is invited to everything. We checked every builder's own pages against that same three-event weekend.

Zola
Yes
Guests RSVP to each event on the Zola website individually, and the seating chart takes a separate floor plan for the ceremony, rehearsal dinner and reception.
Joy
Yes
Each guest’s response is tracked separately for each event, events can be invite-only, and guests see a personalized schedule.
The Knot
Yes
You can invite guests to as many events as you like, and those guests can RSVP to each new event.
Minted
Yes
RSVPs are collected per event by checking “Collect RSVPs online” on each one, and events can be kept private.
Squarespace
No
We found no per-event RSVP feature. RSVPs come through a customizable form block that sends replies to email, Google Drive or Mailchimp.
WedStay One
Partly
The schedule groups a multi-day weekend by day, and Premium includes Stay, room assignments for guests sleeping over. RSVPs are one reply per guest for the whole wedding, not one per event.

For separate RSVPs to each event, Zola, Joy, The Knot and Minted all pass. WedStay One handles the weekend itself, with a schedule grouped by day and, on Premium, room assignments for guests staying over, but it does not take per-event RSVPs: a guest answers once for the whole wedding. If your guest list changes from event to event, that matters. Planning the weekend itself? Read the multi-day wedding guide or see the best wedding planning tools compared.

Wedding website builder questions, answered

The questions couples ask most when choosing where to build their wedding website.

What is the best wedding website builder?

It depends on the wedding. Zola is the strongest all-in-one: a free website with per-event RSVPs, a registry with 0% cash fund fees and a seating chart tool. Joy is strongest on guest features, with per-event RSVPs and a live photo slideshow from its app. Squarespace suits a fully custom design on a subscription. WedStay One suits a wedding weekend: a free page, then a one-time $199 or $599 for seating, a guest photo wall and, on Premium, room assignments.

What is the best free wedding website?

Zola, Joy, The Knot and Minted all let you build and publish a wedding website for free, with RSVPs for each event. Zola bundles the most in one account: a free website and guest list, a registry with 0% fees on cash funds, and a seating chart that is free for up to 15 guests. Squarespace has no free plan, only a 14-day free trial. WedStay One is free to start, with unlimited RSVPs and an unlimited guest list on the free page.

Zola, Joy or The Knot: which is better for a wedding website?

All three are free and all three take RSVPs for each event. Zola adds a seating chart that is free for up to 15 guests and 0% fees on cash funds. Joy adds invite-only events, personalized guest schedules and a live photo slideshow, but its seating chart is a paid unlock per event. The Knot ties the website to its vendor marketplace and inbox; we found no seating chart tool or guest photo sharing on its product pages.

Which wedding website works best for a multi-day wedding?

For separate RSVPs to a welcome dinner, the ceremony and a farewell brunch, Zola, Joy, The Knot and Minted all collect replies per event. WedStay One groups a multi-day schedule by day and, on Premium, assigns rooms to guests sleeping over, but it collects one RSVP per guest for the whole wedding rather than one per event.

Which wedding website builders charge a subscription?

Squarespace is the only builder here sold as a subscription, from $19 a month billed annually. Zola, Joy, The Knot and Minted are free, with paid extras such as a custom domain. WedStay One is free to start, and Pro ($199) and Premium ($599) are one-time prices per page with no subscription and a 14-day full refund.

Can I use my own domain for a wedding website?

Yes, on most builders, for a fee. Zola custom domains start at $17.99, The Knot charges $19.99 for one year, Minted charges $15 a year for a custom URL, and Joy says a domain typically costs about $19.99 a year but only forwards to the withjoy.com address. Squarespace includes a domain free for the first year on annual plans. WedStay One Premium includes a custom page address on thewedstay.com; your own .com domain is not offered yet.

Which wedding websites let guests share photos?

Joy guests upload photos through the Joy app, and they can play as a real-time slideshow at the reception. Zola offers a Disposable Camera that guests open from a QR code with no app, free for up to 5 guests and then priced by guest count. WedStay One Pro and Premium include a Day-of Gallery: guests add photos from a link or QR code, with no app, onto a live photo wall.

How many designs does WedStay One have?

WedStay One has 6 designs: Classic, Editorial, Garden, Beach, Mono and Romance. The free page uses the Classic design, and Pro and Premium unlock all 6. You can scroll a full example of each design before you build.
