What makes a prenup expensive?
With traditional lawyers you usually pay two of them, one for each partner, and many bill by the hour. ContractsCounsel puts the average family lawyer at $200 to $350 an hour.
The hours come from the back and forth. Each round of negotiation means both lawyers read the draft, talk with their client and revise, so every change is billed on both sides. A couple who already agrees on the terms pays mostly for drafting and review. A couple who negotiates pays for the negotiation too.
HelloPrenup's own FAQ puts a traditional law firm prenup at $4,500 to $10,000 per couple, citing its 2024 survey of family law attorneys.
