By state

How much does a wedding cost in each state?

The first column is the whole wedding: the typical budget and the budget one in four couples plans above, for 125 guests. The second is the venue alone: what a WedStay estate charges for its minimum stay, with the lodging included. They measure different things, so they do not add up to a total.

Whole wedding budget range from the WedStay regional estimate, and the median venue base price for the minimum stay from live WedStay listings, by US state.

Method

How are these numbers made?

Whole wedding. The WedStay regional estimate starts from the budgets couples typed into the WedStay wedding budget planner. Each budget is adjusted for its guest count and for its state's price level, using the US Bureau of Economic Analysis Regional Price Parities (2024 data, retrieved September 2026). The first figure is the median budget for 125 guests; the second is the upper quartile. These are what couples plan to spend on the whole wedding, not audited costs.

Venue. The median base price to rent the whole estate for its minimum stay, across published WedStay listings in the state, as of October 2026. A state needs at least three live listings for a figure. Extra nights, cleaning, service fees and tax are charged on top. The full index is in the Wedding Venue Cost Index.

Outside check. In October 2026 we compared the midpoint of every band with the state averages in The Knot 2026 Real Weddings Study. 18 states differ by more than 30%, and each has a note under the table. That study reports average spend after the wedding at each couple's own guest count, so it measures something different from a planned budget.

Coverage. 50 states and the District of Columbia: 51 with a WedStay regional estimate and 8 with enough live listings for a venue median.
